أنا أشرب قهوة "I drink coffee"

In this lesson, we are going to learn about verbs, the present tense particularly. Verbs in Arabic language have three different forms. These are Present, Past and Imperative. A typical practice is to memorize the three forms of each verb.

Now we will focus on the present form/tense. Like in French, German and many other languages, the verb changes according to the subject. The pattern most verbs follow in the present tense is demonstrated in the following examples (notice the letters written in red):

ya--SHrab    yashrab   (Drink)
anaa aSHrab anaa ashrab    (I drink)
anta ta--SHrab anta tashrab    (You drink (m.))
ante ta--SHrab--een ante tashrabeen    (You drink (f.))
antom ta--SHrab--oon antom tashraboon    (You drink (pl.))
howa ya--SHrab howa yashrab    (He drinks)
heya ta--SHrab heya tashrab    (She drinks)
hom ya--SHrab--oon hom yashraboon    (They drink (pl.))
naHno na--SHrab naHno nashrab    (we drink)

The following verbs follow the same pattern shown above :

ya'kol ya'kol Eat
yaf3al yaf'al Do
yakoon yakoon Be
yaDHhab yaDHhab Go
ya'tee ya'tee Come
yamSHee yamshee Walk
yaqef yaqef Stand up/Stop
yagles yagles Sit
yatakallam yatakallam Speak/Talk
yaskot yaskot Stop talking
yazoor yazoor Visit
yadres yadres Study

Some new words are presented here to help exemplify the use of verbs :

hi , I am Mohamed "أهلاّ، أنا محمد"

In this lesson, you will learn simple words and how to introduce yourself in Egyptian. First, very simple words are introduced :

I drink coffee "أنا بأشرب قهوة"

In this lesson, we are going to learn about verbs, the present tense particularly.

You went to school ? (f) "ذهبت الى المدرسة ؟"

In this lesson, we are going to learn about the past form/tense. As mentioned before, verbs in Arabic language have three forms: Present, Past and Imperative.

you studied in the university? (f.) "درستي فى الجامعة ؟"

In this lesson, we are going to learn about the past form/tense. As mentioned before, verbs in Egyptian language have three forms: Present, Past and Imperative.

Hi , I am Mohamed "أهلاّ، أنا محمد"

In this lesson, you will learn simple words and how to introduce yourself in Arabic. First, very simple words are introduced :
English Arabic Pronouncation
Hi ahlan
Welcome marHaban
Bye (literaly means: peace) salaam
Yes na'am
No laa
Thanks shokran
Not at all afwan
sorry aasef
Now, we want to say the simple phrase (I am Mohammed). We should first mention an important note :
in Arabic ,and Egyptian, if the phrase doesn't contain a verb, the verb (to be) is assumed. So the verb (to be) is almost always omitted. Example : (I am Mohamed) will be in Arabic written like ( I Mohamed ) using the Arabic corresponding translation of each word. Similarly, ( You are Maryam ) will be ( You Maryam), and so on.
Now, the only thing we miss to write the phrase is the translation of (I = ana ), so the phrase will be : (ana Mohamed)
More words are listed below :
English Arabic Pronouncation
I anaa
You (m.) anta
You (f.) ante
You (pl.) antom
He howa
She heya
They hom
We naHno
The lesson now is done, you can understand the following conversation (it may look short and quite silly, but it's just for explaining :) :
Mohamed : ahlan, anti Jean ?
Maryam : la, ana Maryam.
Mohamed : aasif. ana Mohamed.
Maryam : anta Mohamed ? ahlan !
Mohamed : naam, shokran.
Maryam : afwan, salam.
Mohamed : salam.
